STATE SILVER GYMKHANA CLUB
~~~GENERAL RULES~~~
1. MEMBERS MUST COMPETE IN AT LEAST SEVEN (7) POINT GYMKHANAS TO QUALIFY FOR YEAR END AWARDS! No saddle will be awarded any age group with less than three (3) year end qualified riders.
2. LATE ENTRY ~ A late fee of $5.00 will be assessed to all entries received less than 30 minutes prior to gymkhana start time.
3. DRESS CODE ~ Shirt tucked in, pants, western belt, and appropriate riding boots must be worn when contestant is competing.
NO halter tops, backless tops or bare midriff tops. Hats are not required, however, contestants wishing to wear hats are asked to pin or otherwise secure
them on. Safety head gear is strongly encouraged!
4. NOVICE CLASS ~ Designed to accommodate a novice rider or a novice horse. A horse is considered “novice” if it has less than two years experience in
competition A rider may ride more than one horse. No substitutions (either horse or rider) will be allowed. There will be day end awards but no event ribbons awarded.
Year end awards will be for OVERALL ONLY.
5. TIME ONLY RUNS ~ Once an event has started, there will be no “time only” entries accepted (for that event).
6. RUNNING ~ Running of horses in parking lot or the area next to the arena is prohibited. If you need to work your horse, use the warm-up arena
7. CONTESTANT MUST HAVE HORSE UNDER CONTROL AT ALL TIMES! If your horse is difficult to get into the arena, please have someone there to help you.
After the pattern has been completed, please DO NOT dismount until you are outside of the arena.
8. NO RUNNING STARTS FROM OUTSIDE OF THE ARENA! Gate will be kept closed except when entering or leaving the arena.
9. BREAKAGE OF TACK ~ Breakage of tack or gear, or accident to horse or rider shall not entitle a competitor to a re-run.
10. STALLIONS ~ Stallions may not be ridden by anyone under eighteen (18) years of age. Stallions are to be kept under saddle, in hand, or stalled when not
being competed upon.
11. PENALTIES ~ A five (5) second penalty will be imposed for each pole, barrel or jump knocked down, and for stepping on or over the line in Keyhole.
12. DISQUALIFICATION ~ These following actions will result in disqualification of the contestant: Whipping, spurring or striking the horse in front of the
cinch. Failure to follow the prescribed pattern. Excessive use of whip, spurs or nerve line if continued after warning. Profane/foul language. Unruly or out of
control horse. Stepping all four (4) of horse’s feet out of the keyhole. Crossing back over the starting line and shutting off the timer before the pattern
has been completed. Not complying with the dress code.
13. TIES ~ Ties on all times will stand. Points for the places tied will be combined, will then be split. Contestants tied for Day End awards will receive duplicate awards.
14. FAILURE OF TIMER ~ Should the electric eye timer fail, the time from the backup hand timer will be used. If both the electric eye and the hand timer fail,
the contestant will rerun.
15. LEAD LINE ~ All competitors in the Lead-line division MUST be lead (either on foot or horseback) by an adult (18 years of age or older).
16. HORSES ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE AREA ADJACENT TO THE COOKSHACK! Horses must remain behind the barrier fence at all times. NO EXCEPTIONS!
17. DOGS ~ Dogs must be on a leash at all times!
18. NO GLASS ~ Glass bottles or containers are not allowed on the grounds.
19. PLEASE ~ Pick up your trash, let’s all help to keep the grounds clean!
20. HAVE FUN ~ Remember that we are here to have fun, and that by following the above rules, the day will be a safe and enjoyable event for everyone
